This. From Aung San Suu Kyi.
"In societies where men are truly confident of their own worth, women are not merely tolerated but valued"
I love that. It really resonates with me, and I am, among other things, a man.
Reminds me of something stunning in Genesis 1:26-27, something stunning about the image of God:
"Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them."
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them."
The image of God is mankind, in male and female. There is no 'second sex', in God's pronouncement, in God's good creation, there is male and female. If you are interested in some of the theology of that, then have a read of 'Karl Barth on sexual difference in the Imago Dei'.
Otherwise, it is International Women's Day, so pray, read up on the plight of female image-bearers, and have a good saturday.
