Just to Be With You...

I haven't blogged for a while - it has been busy at work, and I've also been reading a lot, and grappling with the heat.

Sometimes, though, I just don't have anything to say that I think needs to be heard.

However, as is so often the case, I've been reminded of things, of songs, of people, of bible verses.

The song that has been roaming around my head is a recent one, from the VCUKI album 'Spirit Burn - Live in London.

The title, theme and lyrics have all spoken powerfully into this busy phase of life, so I thought I'd share it with you:

I really like this song. It isn't the best worship song ever (bit of an oxymoron), or the snazziest video, or even the best lyrics. But what it is a simple cry, a simple recognition of something vital to the Christian faith. And I love it. It has served as a reminder to pray. To sing. To worship. To read the Bible in order to spend time with Jesus, just to be with Him.

I love the confession at the opening, which is our way into worship:

I can’t earn your favour
There’s nothing I must do
To win Your approval
I can’t make You love me
More than You already do
Your love has no conditions
So I lay down my striving
And I will lay down everything
Just to be with You
My soul rests in You
And I can hear You singing over me
I am loved
You sing
A song of rejoicing
A song of delight
A song that pursues me
In the day and in the night
I haven't blogged for a while - it has been busy at work, and I've also been reading a lot, and grappling with the heat. And that is absolutely fine - because none of that or anything else I do carries the importance of worship, worship as response to the wonderful thing God has done.

So my prayer is simple: 'Just to be with you'.

And the challenge to you, dear reader, is simpler still: do you understand the challenging liberation hidden in that sentence?
