Tuesday Prayer: 15

This morning is my fifteenth 'Tuesday Prayer' post, and today I'm going with a man whose commentary is on many shelves. Matthew Henry is best known for his commentary on the whole Bible, but he also wrote some other things. The following quote comes from his little-known but deep and beautiful book 'A Way to Pray';

By continuing to shape your prayers in conformity with God’s own words, you will find few disappointments in your fellowship with your heavenly Father. For he is more ready to give  than you are to ask, if only your heart continues to conform to his

For me, this is a powerful reminder that prayer is best done in light of God's revealed Word, the Bible. In the Anglican college where I'm currently studying, I've learned to love the liturgy, especially appreciating the way the Bible is woven in. And from that biblical perspective, Henry says, comes a radical truth; "he is more read to give than you are to ask...". Amazing truth.

But that is just my opinion - what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments.
