This morning is my fourteenth 'Tuesday Prayer' post, and today I'm going with a pastor/theologian who has hugely impacted me over the years. John Piper is not uncontroversial in some circles, but I'm grateful for his writing and preaching. The following quote comes from his well known and beautiful book 'Desiring God';
“Prayer is the open admission that without Christ we can do nothing. And prayer is the turning away from ourselves to God in the confidence that He will provide the help we need. Prayer humbles us as needy and exalts God as wealthy”
I love that. I think it is so true. Without Christ we are powerless. Yet with him, he provides. Real prayer recognises the former to see the latter. It is good to be humbled in prayer.
But that is just my opinion - what do you guys think? Let me know in the comments.
