Today is the 13th iteration of the 'Tuesday Prayer' series, and I thought I'd share a quote that has been rolling around in my head for a while. I'm really quite interested in doubt and faith, and what it is/how it happens when someone doubts their faith, and the reasons behind it. For this, I really like the following quote from Paul Miller, which I found in his book 'The Praying Life'.
“A praying life isn’t simply a morning prayer time; it is about slipping into prayer at odd hours of the day, not because we are disciplined but because we are in touch with our own poverty of spirit, realizing that we can’t even walk through a mall or our neighborhood without the help of the Spirit of Jesus”
I love the emphasis here. Prayer is something that is so much more than a time, an hour, a meeting, a slot. Like so many things in the Christian life (worship, fellowship, forgiveness, confession, the Holy Spirit, evangelism), prayer is something that we should be integrating and working for in the whole of our lives. I think Miller offers us a good reminder of that - in a way that is grounded in a healthy understanding of our weakness and his (Jesus) strength...
But what do you think? Do you agree? Does it help make sense of your, or anothers, doubts? Let me know in the comments!
