Today is the 12th continuation of the 'Tuesday Prayer' series, and I thought I'd share a quote that has been rolling around in my head for a while. I'm really quite interested in doubt and faith, and what it is/how it happens when someone doubts their faith, and the reasons behind it. For this, I really like the following quote from Norwegian pastor O. Hallesby, in his book 'Prayer'.
“My doubting friend, you case is not as bad as you think it is. You have more faith than you think you have. You have faith enough to prayer; you have faith enough to believe that you will be heard. Faith is a strange thing; it often conceals itself in such a way that we can neither see nor find it... The essence of faith is to come to Christ”
I love the emphasis here. Doubt is not the end; for many it is part of faith. Faith is a strange thing, an otherworldly thing, but it is grounded in something doable, knowable, relatable. 'The essence of faith is to come to Christ'. I think that is absolutely true, and some helpful advice for those of us who doubt. At the same time, I think this quote serves as a helpful reminder for all of us who pray.
But what do you think? Do you agree? Does it help make sense of your, or anothers, doubts? Let me know in the comments!
