We Are Man.

I stumbled across this superb little campaign almost by accident. Virtually defunct on Twitter at the time of writing, it seems - the last tweet was the 31st of August, "We Are Man" is a campaign from the UK's "EVAW" - or "End Violence Against Women" coalition. The We Are Man campaign is a good one - aimed at raising awareness and challenging perceptions on this vital issue.

I've blogged before on the topic of ending violence against women - I posted on last years international UN End Violence against Women day - and its one that is dear to me. I'm blessed with a wonderful fiancee, an awesome mother, a bonkers but brilliant sister, loving aunts and cousins, and two wonderful grandmothers, along with a cohort of female friends, old and new. Women are important. The epidemic that exists in the UK regarding attitudes to women is sickening;

71% of young people in the UK witness sexual harassment regularly.

Every 9 minutes a woman is raped in Britain.

One in three teenage girls has experienced sexual violence from a partner.

Each year across the UK, up to 3 million women experience some form of violence.

This is, to be simple, not good. As a Christian who believes in the innate value of every human - due to the Doctrine and Truth of Imago Dei - I've clicked that 'Enough is Enough' on the We Are Man website. I'd encourage you to do the same. At the time of writing 509 people have said so. Given that there are millions more men, any awareness is good, and I'd love to see people supporting this campaign.

Being a man is a controversial topic - with our culture throwing a million expectations at us - but a key part of it, and part of being human, is being Good.

The We Are Man campaign produced this short video:

Its a classic showreel of men doing stupid things. Its funny. Until one guy makes a rape joke. Which is not funny. It devalues women. It devalues humanity.

Watch this video. Consider your own humour. Consider the value, worth and beauty of every woman, every human being. Be a Man - if you are one - or share it with your male friends if not. Consider reading my post on Lad Culture - which feeds a lot of bad stuff - if you have the time.

This is an important issue.
