This post is written in enthusiasm after a wonderfully productive and enjoyable afternoon - pending a great evening.
I'm sitting on an essay, on the cusp of completing a second, and relishing the third - and it is on this note that I found myself relaxing with books this afternoon. By grace, I can sit on the sun in my favourite hat, sipping a cold one, and reading the ideas of a myriad of thinkers.
My essay is on creation - specifically the relation of science and creationism. Or otherwise. My dissertation - providing both a background and a reason for my other modules - is on calvins view of the sovereignty of god. Exciting. A couple of this afternoons books were so inclined. It is my hope that the overall knowledge will be if use.
What have I been reading? What have I been drinking? Where have I been sitting?
I've been drinking a larger - Stella with a bit of lime to be precise - which has complemented the sunny weather well. It's refreshing. Barring getting drunk, I can enjoy it in the new covenant. In the context of gods beautiful creation - a lovely garden - I've enjoyed my afternoon.
The books I've been reading have been eclectic. A superb volume - edited by Justin Holcomb - on theologies of scripture, has provided rhythm and basis for the others. Informing both my creation and dissertation theology, it's a cracker I look forward to reviewing.
I've been reading on science and religion. A varied field - and a controversial one. Highlights were 'The Very Short Introduction to Science and Religion', and Denis Alexander's 'Creation and Evolution: Do We Have to Choose?'. Reviews forthcoming.
Finally I closed in an emergent work. With two essays by maestro Scott McKnight, 'Church in the Present Tense' is well worth reading. Review forthcoming as well
It's been a good afternoon.
Additions to the 'to read' list are most welcome.
Normal service will be resumed tomorrow.
