For the 'Speaking and Writing' page, I will be posting on this blog (in various ways) the few talks I have done. I expect the quality will not be brilliant (in either audio or content) but would value your feedback!
One of the perks of my role with UCCF/NUCU as a Theology Network Associate Staffworker is getting to sidle along to various houseparties, training conferences, and so on. In November 2013 I was invited to come and give a seminar on mission related to Identity. I delivered something looking at how (predominantly white, straight, English evangelical Christian students [like myself]) can reach out with the Good News of the Gospel to folk who don't find us that convincing a lot of the time. With the lofty aim of starting conversations about engaging with LGBTQIAA* folk, BME and International students, and what Nottingham calls 'BNOCs' - 'Big-Name-On-Campus's'. This was prefaced with a look at how being part of NUCU might shape our own identity.
We looked at why people shape their identities, some of the factors that prevent good evangelism, and the priority of love. As ever, I recommended a fair few books, and you can grab a pdf of the 'handout' from DropBox here. Anyway, below is a link to the audio - enjoy.
