Tuesday Prayer: 7

After an accidental hiatus last week, I'm today continuing my 'Tuesday Prayer' series. You can read about the series in the Introduction, and view previous posts featuring quotes from Tom WrightJohn WimberRichard Foster and Don Carson, the great J. C. Ryle and Alister McGrath, we turn today to the words of James K. A. Smith, one of my favourite contemporary theologian/philosophers, from his excellent book 'Desiring the Kingdom'.

Regarding prayer, Smith says this;

"Prayer is a practice that makes us a people who refuse to settle for appearances" p. 193

I think that is a powerful and true idea - the notion that prayer as a practice and a pursuit is something that challenges this world's insistence on appearances because there is a deeper thing going on. But what do you think? Do you agree?
