My photo: St John's chapel.
Following on from my 'Ecumenical Evangelical' mini-series, where I reflected on my experiences at Momentum, Forum, and JAEC, I thought I'd share very briefly about the current stage I'm at, studying at St Johns College in Nottingham. Oh, and this banner hangs in the chapel, I think it's great:
St Johns describes itself as an 'open evangelical charismatic' Anglican training college, and I'm there as an independent student, rubbing shoulders with Anglican ordinands, ordinands of other denominations (Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal...) and a whole gamut of independent and continuing students. I've loved the blend of people, and I think this new video from St Johns shows that well:
My current course of study is St John's MA in Mission and Ministry, which I'm taking full time. I've loved modules thus far on The Mission of the Triune God, and the Theology of the Old Testament. I'm looking forward to Worship, Theology and Culture at the end of this term, and then Death and Dying, and Biblical Interpretation, in the new year. Running through all of that is my placement, which I hope to write about soon, and my Dissertation. What is next is not abundantly clear, and your prayers are appreciated for that, but St Johns is proving to be a great place to think about the future and more. I'm particularly grateful that I have access to a solid library and loving community of theologically-minded people, providing space to reflect and dream.
The video above echoes my thus far very positive experience of St Johns. It really is a varied and wonderful community. There are lots of exciting people with amazing stories being trained for ministry, trained in love, and trained intellectually. I am excited to hear where some of them end up, and think St Johns is a great place to think about studying. If you have any experiences of St Johns, or thoughts, or questions, let me know in the comments.
