Tuesday Prayer: 18

This is the eighteenth in my now fairly-long-running 'Tuesday Prayer' post, and today I want to share with you a quote from a book I bought this weekend and have nearly finished. Written by the prolific Tim Chester, 'You Can Pray' is a helpful and comprehensive book that I am finding actually does engage with the questions real Christians have about prayer. His theological background is evident through, especially in his constant emphasis on the Trinity in prayer;

We pray conscious of the three persons. But we must never separate them, like tritheists - people who functionally believe in three gods. To encounter one divine person is to know the others. To see Jesus is to know the Father. The Spirit is the Spirit of Christ. This means we always have communion with God - not a part of the God...”

This, for me, is a helpful quote. It reminds us of the nature, the being, of the God we pray to, with, and in. I think it is important to remember this in prayer - rather than praying in a limited way. I wonder, have you ever through about the Trinitarian nature of our prayers before?

  1. Have you read his "Message of Prayer" in the Bible Speaks Today series on themes - I thought that was really good when I read it

    1. Hi, Mark, thanks for the comment. It is very much on my list - but I haven't got round to it yet. I've enjoyed the BST Themes thus far, so thanks for furthering my desire to read it.
